How to use these calculators well
Each tool gives a planning estimate, not a promise that every material will behave the same way. Paper thickness, printer margins, yarn texture, ribbon width, paint coverage, and glue choice all change real-world results. Use the estimate to buy or prepare supplies, then make one test piece before repeating the project.
When to add extra buffer
Add more buffer when the material is discontinued, the color must match, the project is for an event, or the project will be made by several people. Add less buffer when you are practicing with cheap paper or making a one-off project where small imperfections are acceptable.
Good test-piece habits
- Print or cut one piece on the final material.
- Fold, glue, tie, paint, or block it the way the real project requires.
- Measure the finished piece, not only the flat template.
- Update the calculator numbers if the test piece uses more material than expected.
